I started working out to play sports when I was 13. ![]() “I got sick of pimping out other people’s shit”ġ) In order for people to understand why you're qualified to do what it is you do now, explain what you did before (school, working out, owning the gym, etc). Hope you enjoy them and are able to learn from them. So I asked him a few questions, to which he came back with some very honest answers. Specifically if you have the desire to start on an entirely different career path. Either way, I think his story can be extremely valuable to a lot of people. He's extremely passionate about fitness, but it seems like he could care less about ever being the guy with a 6 Pack. Then he starts working out, and goes 110% until he can't go anymore. On the one hand, he's just a happy laid back person. He's got two different sides, which I also think are interesting. Always trying to achieve personal growth, while also helping other people grow. Always happy and always extremely positive. Which I thought would be a good fit for a new project I'm working on. A lot has changed since we met, and he now has a completely new focus. He's just a happy dude who really enjoys what he does. And it was always said with one of those grins that make you think he's up to something. Every time I walked in and said "what's up" to Anders, his answer would inevitably be "just hangin' out". It's been cool getting to know him, as well as the other people who make it a point to regularly throw heavy weights around in there. Since that day, I've spent a great amount of time in his gym shooting. So I went in at an off time and spoke with the "bosses". After walking by the gym a few more times, it was obvious to me that everything going on in there was right in my wheel house photographically. I had never seen inside that space, and was now extremely intrigued with the space itself, and what is was the maniacs inside of it were doing. It was a new Crossfit gym that now occupied the space behind my local coffee shop. Stay tuned for the next post on a subject unrelated to fitness that will no doubt preach about the value of personal project, again……Ĭlick here to see more of my fitness images.Ībout 5+/- years ago, I was walking around my neighborhood and heard the unmistakeable sounds of barbells dropping, people yelling, and hip-hop. That’s fun too, but there’s got to be more than that. Why? It certainly make it easier to market yourself that way, but why limit yourself to shooting one subject matter your whole life? I love photography and using it for various purposes like documenting life, not just to create ad campaigns for clients. People will always say “you have to specialize”. ![]() The point is, if you’re following someone like me, it’s because you like my photography, not necessarily all of the subject matter. I’d classify it more as a culture or travel photo though. Admittedly the woman riding her bike could be classified as a fashion photograph, a subject that bores the hell out of me. So what does that have to do with gritty images of an athletic girl working out? Nothing other than both subjects interest me. It leads off with an older women in a white fur jacket and hat riding her bicycle down a cobblestone street in a postcard European town. Just look at the blog post previous to this one. ![]() My photography is focused on my interests, which are quite varied. I realized a while back that I’m a hard follow. If you’re in the fitness world then chances are you follow brands like Rogue, Nike, 2XU, Rhone, and Reebok because of the guaranteed stream of fitness related content.
